Portugal's win over Hungary

Portugal's win over Hungry this past weekend was a very good one. Portugal finally played like a team and for once it is now showing. Portugal opened the scoring with a rebound goal by Simao. The second goal was scored by one of our own Liedson, as his diving header found the back of the next. To put the final dagger on the coffin Simao scored his second which sealed Portugal's win over Hungary.

Christiano Ronaldo although only playing the first half his contribution was great, and that was good for the team. Nothing to be taken away from Hungarian team, they played an awesome game and should still be very proud of themselves.

Sporting vs Belenenses Highlights

Sporting vs Belenenses Result

A very bad result in today's game for Sporting, giving up 2 points towards the championship in today's 0-0 tie against Belenenses. Sporting played well but not well enough, the Belenenses goalie came up with some amazing saves to preserver the tie for his team.

One thing that comes to mind while watching this game is why are all the good healthy Sporting players on the bench? Names will not be mentioned but two of our top players were riding the pine while their counter partners were struggling to make something happen during the game. Sporting fans keep on asking them selves the same question over and over " WHAT IS PAUL BENTO DOING?"
No one really knows but Paul Bento. But as long as we keep on winning and the results continue to be the way they are in the Europa League I will not question the man! He must be doing something right if we are on top with 6 points .

Sporting vs Hertha Highlights

Sporting vs Hertha Result

A very good outcome for Sporting after beating Hertha 1-0 courtesy of a 17th minute goal from Adrien Silva. With this win Sporting is standing pretty above Ventspils with a commanding 4 point lead to take control of Group D.

The game wasn't the most exciting game to watch but I can almost guarantee that not one Sporting fan is upset with the outcome. The goal it self was a nice one, but the only thing is that it took a deflection of one of the Hertha defense men which left the goalie defenseless. Although Sporting won they looked very tired during the game. So tired that Portuguese commentators were quoted saying " The Sporting players look like 50 year old men out there."

Overall it was a good outcome for Sporting, the next game is on Oct.22.2009
(10:05 local time - Skonto - Riga - Latvia) were Sporting will be defending their perfect start against second place Ventspils.

Sporting's Coach Confident on Tomorrow's Game

The anticipation for tomorrow's home game is very high in Lisbon as Sporting Clube de Portugal is facing Hertha BSC Berlin at 8:05 pm (local time) Lisbon-Portugal. The Sporting coach believes that his team is in good shape and that they should come away with the 3 points tonight.

Although Anderson Polga will not be playing, Tonel will be the one to step up and take his place. Although he has not started many games this year, the coach is very confident he will do just fine and will emerge as a defensive leader.

Both teams have a lot to play for tomorrow, and the game should not be taken lightly. With Hertha breathing down Sporting's back, a lose at home will mean that Hertha moves up right above Sporting on the top of Group D with 4 points. If Sporting can come up with the victory tomorrow at home these will mean they will have 6 points and in a comfortable position above the competition.
